The Freetown City Council (FCC) opened a Book of Condolence and organized a civic laying out ceremony for the Late Mrs. Alice Rosaline Koroma, mother of President Ernest Bai Koroma at Miatta Conference Center in Freetown yesterday.
The body of the Late Mrs. Koroma was laid out in a white bronze casket, with gold-colored side panels. She was dressed in a remarkable blue flowing shroud.
Mourners from all walks of life including ministers, deputy ministers, diplomats, civil servants, and other distinguished personalities, political party stalwarts, representatives of the Sierra Leone Army, Police and Prisons, the Sierra Leone Teachers Union, journalists and members of the public were in attendance to pay their last respects to Mrs. Alice Rosaline Koroma.
The Sierra Leone Police Band added a special touch of solemnity to the program by playing religious music.
President Ernest Bai Koroma, the First Lady Mrs. Sia Nyama Koroma and his siblings were dressed in majestic white. The Freetown Municipal Police bore the casket to the hall and the ceremony consisted of statements of condolences and the laying of wreaths. Mourners including ministers and their deputies, party officials and members of the diplomatic corps then filed solemnly past the open coffin to catch their last view of the mother of President Koroma to pay their last respects to her.
